The archaeological remains at Karahantepe, located in Şanlıurfa Province Turkey, are now being safeguarded under a protective roof commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The project has been undertaken by Evrenol Architects, led by senior architect Mehpare Evrenol and urban planner Bahadır Asım.

Professor Dr. Necmi Karul, head of the Karahantepe excavation, emphasized the importance of preservation efforts alongside ongoing research. “One of the key aspects of our work at Karahantepe is conservation. From the very first year, we have conducted structural reinforcements and restoration of architectural elements. Particularly the standing pillars, in parallel with excavations. However, despite all precautions, exposure to open-air conditions continues to pose challenges. In such cases, protective coverings become essential.”
This initiative aims to ensure the long-term preservation of Karahantepe’s historical heritage while supporting ongoing archaeological studies.
